We don't just trade the market.
We make the market.

What We Do

Akuna Capital is a proprietary trading firm specializing in option market making.

We have no clients, trade using only the firm’s own money, and provide liquidity in the options markets. We’re active in a wide range of products across the US and we are also actively developing our international operations. Our trading combines the skills of our talented trading team with industry-leading software produced in-house by our development team. In a highly competitive and dynamic industry, we’re constantly encountering new and exciting challenges.

Who We Are

who-we-are

Akuna Capital was founded in the summer of 2011 with only five employees, but with ambitions big enough to choose an office large enough for a hundred. Just three years later, we’ve surpassed capacity in our Chicago Loop office. The space that was once a bit bare and echo-y to start is now bustling with activity, and we’ve expanded onto an additional floor in our Chicago building and 3 additional offices across the US and China, with more international expansion sure to come.

Even though we’ve grown significantly from small (but determined) beginnings, we proudly retain the spirit of a smaller, entrepreneurial start-up.

Today, our ambitions are still just as big as the day we started— this is just the beginning for Akuna.

How We’re Different

Akuna_Web_DF_R5-10

We like to think of trading firms as big machines with a lot of moving parts. We have a number of competitors in the proprietary market-making industry that we hold in high esteem because they are efficient, finished machines and have some really great traders and developers who keep them running. What’s different about Akuna is that we are still building the machine, and we think it is in line to be one of the best in the trading space.

Junior employees are quickly given responsibilities, actively working alongside our senior team and getting direct access to management. Our employees are enterprising, ambitious individuals who thrive in an environment where they are developing the firm, not just doing a job.

Work for us and you’ll actually get to see your work making a difference in shaping Akuna as we continue to grow. We think that’s pretty amazing.

Our Culture

culture-icon

Trading is by nature a high-pressure industry, so Akuna is comprised of levelheaded team players that can keep their cool under all conditions. We are a highly educated and hard-working bunch, yet still like to kick off our shoes and hang out after the work is done. We have a relaxed dress code, as we believe the quality of work matters much more than the formality of your clothing.

We believe it is important to know your co-workers outside of the office, so we plan a multitude of outings like happy hours, sporting events, game nights and an annual company trip to a new destination each year. In 2014 we headed to Austin, Texas.

Throughout the year, we have a wide variety of events like cycling trips, afternoons at the racetrack, and company dinners. We’re a highly social bunch.
